Subject
WATER INTRUSION ONTO PASSENGER SIDE FRONT FLOOR DUE TO KINKED A/C DRAIN HOSE

DESCRIPTION:

Some Sonata vehicles may exhibit water intrusion onto the passenger side front floor during A/C operation. This condition may be due to a kinked A/C drain hose restricting drainage from the A/C evaporator.

Follow the inspection information outlined in this bulletin to verify that the A/C drain hose is not kinked. If the A/C drain hose is found to be kinked, then follow the included service procedure to correct the condition.

APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
Models: 2009-2010 Sonata (NF)

INSPECTION INFORMATION

1. Determine the orientation of the hose bracket - located at the lower portion of the engine bulkhead between the center tunnel and the RH inner fender.

NOTE:
There are two bracket positions. The proper routing method of the hose will be determined once the bracket position type has been identified.

2. The hose and bracket will be visible as shown below with 4 possible configurations.

^ For the two configurations shown below, the bracket orientation can be determined by looking at the distance from the hose to the sealer line.

^ If the hose is about an inch to the side of the body sealer line, the bracket is horizontal.

^ If the hose is nearly touching the side of the body sealer line, the bracket is diagonal.

^ For the two configurations shown below, the bracket orientation can be determined by looking at the bracket location relative to the connector below it.

^ If the bracket is slightly to the side of the electrical connector, the bracket is horizontal.

^ If the bracket is directly above the electrical connector, the bracket is diagonal.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

1. Carefully re-route the drain hose based on the orientation of the bracket.

^ If the bracket is horizontal, ensure the hose is routed as shown below.

a. Remove the hose from the bracket.

b. Lift the bracket up.

c. Route the hose behind the bracket and the wire.

d. Bend the bracket across the hose to hold it in place.

^ If the bracket is diagonal, ensure the hose is routed as shown below.

a. Remove the hose from the bracket.

b. Place the hose on top of the secured end of the bracket.

c. Route the hose to the side of the stud (towards center tunnel), as shown.

d. Lift the bracket up and fold it over the hose, wrapping it around the hose to hold the hose in place.

NOTE:
If the hose is already routed properly according to the instructions above but the hose is still kinked, then adjust the bracket to relieve the kinked condition.
